Burnside, Sophie
My great-grandparents were James W. Bowman and Sophie Burnside who married in 1881 at the Wesley Monumental Methodist Church in Savannah. I have their original marriage certificate hanging up in my dining room! I just found out that James's parents were probably Samuel & Israeline Bowman who may have come from Effingham County. About Sophie, I know almost nothing, except that I found her and a sister living in a Savannah Orphan Asylum in the 1870 census. She died not long after my grandmother Nell was born in 1883 and a son James was born a little later. It's a real road block to find anything out about her--I'd really like to find her parents.

Hart, Harriett M.
My brick wall is Harriett M. Hart (or maybe Carpenter) b. Jan 26, 1801 Savannah, GA d. Jul 9, 1880 Savannah, GA. She married Herman Daggett Greene Mar 22, 1820 in Savannah, GA. Her children were Margaret Hart Greene, Sarah Jayne Greene, Susan Eliza Greene, and Herman Daggett Greene II. Who was her father? Her father-in-law said she was "an orphan lady whose father died at sea." He said she was Harriett Maria Carpenter. Her granddaughter said she was Harriett M. Hart. Charles H. Olmstead, son of Jonathan and Eliza Hart Olmstead called her "Auntie Greene." She is buried at Laurel Grove in the lot backing the Olmstead lot. Mrs. Margaret Hart is also buried in the Olmstead lot and was moved from Colonial Cemetery at the same time as Harriett's son Herman was moved. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hart, William
Margaret Carpenter, widow about 1800 married William Hart. Margaret had a daughter Harriet Maria Carpenter b. Jan 26, 1801 and a daughter Eliza Hart born 1802-1803. Does anyone know which William Hart--sailmaker or seaman? I have two--one died Nov 9, 1819 in the poorhouse, and the other died before June 19, 1816 when his widow Catherine filed to become admin. of estate citing she and one child as heirs. Eliza Hart also filed the same day to become admin. but apparently Catherine won. If this William Hart is husband of Margaret Carpenter he would have had to marry Catherine after Margaret died Nov 5, 1808. Both Harriet Carpenter and Eliza Hart petitioned the court to have Moses Sheftall become guardian. An interesting puzzle. Help!

Pickren, William H.
My great great grandfather (William H. PICKREN) died during the Civil War while at Camp Phillips/Camp Beaulieu (on the Beaulieu plantation). He died in April 1862. He is not buried next to his wife in the family cemetery plot in Columbus, GA. I "assume" he was buried near where he died. I have spoken with someone in the office of each cemetery in Savannah and they all said there is no CW soldier by that name buried in their cemetery. Does anyone know if there might have been a cemetery on the Beaulieu plantation where soldier burials were made? Are there other very old cemeteries near the old Beaulieu plantation? Wallaston, Frank
I am looking for my great-grandfather and his family in and around Savannah, GA in the mid-late 1800s. I have a lead on this family but am struggling to find anything about them. My great-grandfather's name was Frank Wallaston, Sr. and he was born between 1883-1887 in Georgia. He was married to Ella Jacobs Heberer in St. Louis, MO abt 1924 and had a son, my grandfather, Frank Wallaston, Jr., in Mar-1925. Soon after, they removed from St. Louis to Savannah. Recently I found a Thomas Wollaston and wife Maggie, in both the 1920 and 1930 census of Chatham Co., Savannah, Ga... the 1930 census has their son, Frank living with them- he is married and born around 1883 (although his wife and child are not in the household......My grandfather, Frank Jr., did tell me that his father left the family early on as an alcoholic- which might explain this). I am looking to find any evidence or information about the WALLASTON (WOLLASTON) family of Savannah to help prove or disprove my findings, as well as help me piece together my past. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
